I really don’t even know where to begin with this story. There is so many things ridiculously wrong here…lets just say it involves the board of a government ran school and a teacher, both in desperate need of counseling, a psychic, and the expectation of government solving all your life problems. What a read!
A New York man wants to sue the state in order to prove state aid to business, or what I like to call corporate welfare, is unconstitutional. Good luck with that.

Big T Idiot of the Week.
Once again it is Monday and that means it is time to select the Big T idiot of the week. This week we find our idiot in a Missouri Home Depot store.
Haywood Rosales claims he was injured after being glued to a toilet seat in a Home Depot store restroom and has filed a lawsuit against the retail giant for negligence.
Rosales says he did not notice the toilet seat was covered with adhesive before sitting down and then had to use his cell phone to call for help after becoming glued to the seat.
Rosales also claims the removal of the seat caused cuts, bruising and tearing on his buttocks and thighs and he endured embarrassment and pain and suffering. He also claims his injury rendered him unable to work and is seeking $25,000 in damages.
Is Mr. Rosales serious? If anyone is to blame I would say it is him for not checking the seat out for himself. Seriously, when was the last time you used a public restroom without thoroughly checking the seat? I hope your answer is the same as mine, never.
You have to check the seat and failure to do so makes Mr. Rosales the Big T idiot of the week.

That was Then, This is Now...
I have been reading about James Madison. He was a founding father and the fourth President of the United States. I have to add that for all you government-educated kids who don’t have a clue who he is.
Anyways, I ran across this message from the past and quote from Madison:
“The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state government, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.”
Of course, that was then, this is now. If you listen to the presidential candidates you would think the primary purpose of our federal government is to redistribute wealth and provide free charitable services to everyone.

UNICEF Partners with Terrorist Organization

United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) is a charitable group chartered under the UN. I am not and have never been a fan. When it comes to UNICEF, I can think of plenty other charitable organizations doing wonderful things for children. This time UNICEF has really crossed the line into the dark side.
UNICEF has decided to partner with the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) based in Saudi Arabia. On the surface everything looks legit and alright, but then you find out the IIRO has been designated as a terrorist group by the United States and the UN itself!
In August 2006, the US Treasury Department designated two branches of the IIRO as terrorist organizations because they provided money and support to groups linked to al Qaeda including Abu Sayyaf in the Phillipines.
A former member of this group in the Philippines testifies a limit amount of foreign funding for the IIRO goes to legitimate projects and the rest of the money goes to terrorist operations.
This group, as well as others, is on the UN 1267 Committee’s consolidated list of individuals and entities associated with the Taliban, al Qaeda and Osama Bin Ladin.
I have asked it before, and I will ask it again. Why are we still a part of the UN? Why do we continue to fund the UN? The UN is the biggest waste of taxpayer money ever!

The Big T Pic of the Day
PETA is Back!!!
Photo by Mike Brown / The Commercial Appeal
Ashley Byrne, a Washington, D.C.-based campaign coordinator with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), talks with Memphis police officers during a recent demonstration outside City Hall that coincided with World Vegetarian Week. When officers inquired about the well-being of intern Shawn Herbold (bottom) and volunteer Thomas Olsen, a sweat-soaked Herbold replied that she was in pain and feeling nauseated from the heat after being wrapped in cellophane for 30 minutes, and also asked how much longer she needed to stay there. Byrne let her know it wouldn't be much longer and left her under the hot afternoon sun for 30 minutes more while debating with the officers. PETA would never treat a cow that way, but I guess it's OK for an intern. Many organizations that focus on extremes could take note that leading through example makes more impact than demonstrating with hypocrisy. "1,000 Words" is a weekly pictorial commentary on events in Greater Memphis and around the world. Today's "1,000 Words" was written by Mike Brown, a photographer for The Commercial Appeal.
Obama finally leaves his church
After more than twenty years in the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Barack Obama has decided that the time has come to leave his church. I guess he got tired of trying to justify his membership.
His announcement came days after Trinity’s guest Catholic Priest Michael Pfledger made the comment; “racism is still America’s greatest addiction. I also believe America is the greatest sin against God,” during a sermon.
In his announcement Obama said he is not denouncing the church, but will no longer be attending.
“It’s clear that now that I’m a candidate for president, every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will imputed to me even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles.”
This is no doubt an attempt to distance himself from Father Pfledger. In fact if Obama was asked about the priest’s comments he would probably tell us he was unfamiliar with the priest or never heard him say anything like that before. At least that is the kind of excuses we heard about his own pastor of twenty years Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
The fact of the matter is Obama can’t distance himself from these people because this is who Barack Obama is…For more than twenty years Obama sat in this church on Sundays and no doubt listened to sermons carrying the same: “I hate America because it is racist theme” and never once felt compelled to leave until now.
It is this “Hate America” theme that keeps coming up…Rev. Wright’s comments: “God Damn America” to his own wife who has: “never been proud to be an American until now.” Now we have Father Pfledger saying: America is the greatest sin against God… Oh and let’s not forget about that Cuban Che Guevara flags at an Obama campaign headquarters…
I have said it once, and I will say it again. You can tell a lot about a man by the company he keeps and this is the company Barrack Obama has kept for the past twenty years.

Hillarycare II: the sequel
OK…first off this is straight off the rumor mill. I have not been able to find anything concrete about this, but rumor has it if Barrack Obama he will either give Hillary Clinotn a cabinet position or put her in charge of his healthcare initiative.
Hillarycare II: the sequel. If this doesn’t scare the life out of you then maybe you don’t remember Hillarycare I. In 1993 Bill Clinton let Hillary propose a health care plan. (Probably to distract her from his extra-curricular activities with interns, but that is another story.) Anyways, in Hillarycare I it was illegal for you to use your own money and see a doctor of your choice. You could actually go to jail for such a crime! I can only imagine what Hillarycare II would bring to the table.
The main reason I even mention any of this is to just let you know thanks to the dumb masses of the government educated nationalized health care is on the way whether you like it or not. Give the democrats control of the White House, Senate and House this November; it will be here a lot earlier than you might think.
For whatever reasons the majority of Americans do not feel they should be responsible for their own healthcare. This thought is just idiotic to me. Your health is the most important thing in your life and you have no responsibility for its care? Just doesn’t make sense to me.
Anyways, under the circumstances John McCain actually has some fairly good ideas for handling the “health care crisis.” These ideas would involve private sector options and not government. For instance, give the same tax breaks to workers or individuals when they buy their own policies that businesses get when they buy health insurance for workers.
When it comes to healthcare liberals want to empower government and politicians. Conservatives want to empower the free market and individuals.

House Speaker Pelosi Praises Iran not US Military for Surge Success in Iraq
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi continued her support for the troops the only way she knows how, by discrediting their successes in Iraq. In her latest interview with the San Francisco Chronicle Pelosi claimed the US troops surge was a failure and then credited any success to “the goodwill of Iranians,” claiming they were responsible for ending violence in the southern city of Basra.
“Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn’t accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians—they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities—the Iranians,” Pelosi told the chronicle in an interview lasting over an hour discussing various different topics.
Is this woman insane! She will not mention anything if it will reflect well on the US military or US policy, but will quickly butter up the Iranians. The same Iranians that are funding insurgent activities in Iraq and Afghanistan!
Is it possible Pelosi doesn’t know the Iranian-brokered-cease-fire in Basra fell through and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered Iraqi Security Forces who with the help of US and coalition forces brought the Sadrists militias to their knees in a battle lasting a month driving insurgents out of Basra? How dare she downplay the sacrifice made from the blood sweat and tears of thousands of military service members and their families!
Of course this is common response from Nancy Pelosi. She has made comments similar to this in the past.
Considering the fact that democrats are still invested in our defeat in Iraq, and good news from Iraq is bad news for democrats Pelosi must feel this trip was productive for the cause. Discounting the success of the military, denying the accomplishments of the Iraqi Security Forces and giving credit to one of our most dangerous enemies puts her at the top for democrats on Capitol Hill.
Yesterday I mentioned Obama should make a trip to Iraq this summer, but after Pelosi’s treasonous affair there is really no reason for Obama to make this trip after all.

The month of May has been a busy one for me…I just moved into a new place. It is like the 10th time I have moved and it never gets easier. I am also on vacation visiting family and friends in rural Illinois for almost the whole month of June. I plan on doing some blogging while there though.
Anyways, I am pretty much settled in and I have my internet connection up and running. So let’s get to it.

D-Day 64 years Later
Friday marked the 64th Anniversary of D-Day. Unfortunately the day came and went unnoticed by most Americans and thanks to our wonderful government ran education system the younger generation of Americans do not even know what D-Day is.
Here is a refresher. June 6, 1944 more than 850,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy. Thousands of US Soldiers lost their lives as the ocean water literally turned red with American blood. It wasn’t until mid-July that the Allied forces were able to break through the German lines. If you need a visual refresher put in the movie “Saving Private Ryan” into your DVD player. The beginning of the movie was D-Day.
850,000 Soldiers for one operation! We don’t have half that many in Iraq or Afghanistan combined and not at one time have we lost thousands of Soldiers in less than a month’s time in the war on terror.
Where mistakes made in the battle plans for D-Day? You bet they were. Did the battle go as planned? Not exactly…Did Republicans bash Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt the way today’s Democrats bash President George W. Bush on mistakes made? Hell no…that was unthinkable. Instead the country united to win the fight. I often wonder how different the fight we are in now would have went had democrats got behind the war effort to show our enemies a unified front.
Here is another thing that would never have been allowed to happen today without extreme controversy. On the hour of US troops landing on the beaches FDR addressed the nation and led them in prayer for our nation and its Servicemembers.
I want you to click on the link above and listen to this prayer. Then ask yourself could any president been able to do the same today? I would also like to see if you notice the American spirit that reminds us when our nation is facing evil, we find the resources, the courage, and the innovation to win and defeat our enemies and not make excuses or come up with reasons why we can not win. Then ask yourself the most important question facing our nation today. Is that American spirit from WWII still alive today?

It's back: The Big T Idiot of the Week
I can’t think of a better story than this one to bring back the idiot of the week segment on the blog.
This week’s idiot is a 64 year-old-woman from Danville, Calif. This lady wakes up one morning and decides she has had enough of these high gas prices, and she is going to do something about it.
Her solution? She grabs some fireplace logs and some matches, marches down to her local Arco and Chevron gas stations and starts a fire. And then for reasons unknown goes over to the local Starbucks and starts a blaze there also.
Does this woman actually believe gas stations have any control over the price of gas? Does she honestly think starting a fire on private property and burning up a gas station is going to help lower the price of gas?
If this woman had any sense of economics she would understand that gas prices are up because production is not meeting the high demand for gas. In other words there is a gas shortage. If you burn down a gas station and they lose all their gas then there is even more of a shortage.
And why the hell a Starbucks? What does coffee have to do with gas?
Anyways the woman is in jail and her bail is posted at $810,000. She is The Big T Idiot of the Week.

There Oughta be a new Congressman in Illinois.
Stupid ideas never die and come from both sides of the political aisle. This time the good idea fairy is 6th District Illinois Republican Congressman Peter J. Roskam.
Roskam proposed his “There Oughta be a Law” initiative at a press conference in Bloomingdale, IL. Tuesday and released the following statement on his website:
“As a member of Congress, I have learned first hand what most 6th District residents already know, Washington is broken. Partisan politics have hamstrung Congress’ ability to find solutions to the most pressing problems our nation faces.”
“The constituents I represent are reasonable folks with sound ideas – and it’s time to send a little more 6th District solutions to Washington,” said Roskam. “Therefore I am proud to give my constituents the unique opportunity to have their legislative idea introduced in Congress. The very best way to restore faith in our nation’s government is to empower individuals. This is the ultimate definition of representative government.”
“Working together, we will send more common sense to Washington and Springfield.”
And more damn laws. You know one of the problems we have in this country is there are to many laws already on the books. Congressmen like Roskam -- and believe me he isn’t the only one -- thinks it his duty to add even more laws to the books. At least he wants to give you a say in what new laws might be I guess.
Of course this is not a new idea. Similar types of contest have been used in other places. In 2005 Pennsylvania Republican Congressman Tom Stevens proposed a bill from an 11-year-old boy that would require drivers to keep their dogs heads inside the vehicle at all times and require dogs to be in seatbelts or some type of carrying transport devise.
Wow, I can’t wait for more ridiculous legislation like that.
If we are going to have an “Oughta be a Law” contest then we should have some Big T law proposals:
1.Two-year term limits for idiots like Peter J. Roskam.
2. For each new proposed law, two older laws (related or not) will be proposed for removal.
3. The next congressman to propose a law out of the guidelines of the constitution shall be shot by the people.
Of course if I were to have it my way there would be an “Ought not be a Law” contest to suggest laws that infringe on freedom and our in desperate need of repeal.

I am highly disappointed at the Democrat National Committee for exploiting footage of an IED attack on American Soldiers in Iraq to run anti-war ads against Sen. John McCain, but I am definitely not surprised. This is the type of behavior I have come to expect from the party invested in our defeat.
What is the most disturbing part is democrats are using these images of Soldiers killed by IEDs to get votes and raise money. Al Qaeda uses the same images to raise money, gain support and solicit martyrs. One has got to wonder; where did the DNC get this footage, and just what side are they actually on?
You know there is an old Arab proverb “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
In this case, the DNC using terrorist propaganda to advance themselves, it becomes the enemy of my enemy is my philosophically agreeable friend.

American Workers Suffer as US becomes home to highest corporate taxes in World
According to a new study from the Tax Foundation the U.S. ranks second in the World, trailing Japan for having the highest corporate taxes. On a more disturbing note 24 states ranked higher than Japan on the list. Iowa having the highest corporate tax rates in the World at 41.6%
States known for their fairly low state-level corporate tax rates such as Nevada , South Dakota , and Wyoming was still higher than France and 25 other countries at 35%
32 states have a combined corporate tax rate higher than third-ranked Germany , 46 states higher than fourth-ranked Canada and all 50 states were higher than fifth ranked France .
This could be one of the reasons for a failing economy. It is definitely a reason for jobs leaving the US .
“This is startling news for America ’s business and workers,” said Tax Foundation president Scott Hodge. “Tax competition for jobs and investments is fierce, and the US continues to fall further and further behind. Our states should be the world’s leaders in many things, but high taxation should not be one of them. The high federal corporate tax rate is literally crushing states’ competitive abilities. That means fewer jobs for American workers.”
Don’t expect this new study to get much play in the mainstream media. Why? Well because taxes are boring, and stories like Obama and his pastor, or a real good sex scandal will always get better ratings than taxes. Plus the media really just doesn’t want you to know or understand these things. It goes directly against the liberal agenda that we need higher taxes on evil corporations.
This study rejects that idea and shows that a lot of US states are taxing the providers of jobs higher than any other developed country in the world. Anyone who knows the slightest thing about economics will immediately see this could be a problem.
Those who have read my writing for a while know I have always made the claim workers suffer the most when their employers are forced to pay high corporate taxes, but don’t take my word for it. In a related study the Tax Foundation found workers bear 70% of the burden of corporate income taxes.
You want to bring jobs back to America ? You want to revive the economy? Here is a crazy idea, how about the FairTax? It would make the US corporate tax system the most competitive in the world by eliminating it. Imagine how many jobs would flock to America if there were no corporate taxes.

Who says we're in a recession and what exactly is it?
In just the last few months, the economy has become the topic of many conversations. The word recession has been used 141 times in the Congressional Record this year and it is only May. Even presidential hopeful John McCain said Monday he believes the country is in recession, adding “these are very, very tough times in America.”
So what exactly constitutes tough times in America, and what exactly is a recession? Are we really in a recession?
If you were to take an economics class you would learn that a recession is a decline in a country's real gross domestic product or negative real economic growth, for two or more successive quarters of a year. That is the text book definition.
So if you go by the text book definition, we are not in a recession. We have come close to the text book definition, but not quite there.
Of course the text book definition isn't good enough to determine if we are in a recession or not. In the US we have something called the Business Cycle Dating Committee of the National Bureau of Economic Research. This seven person panel is who decides whether the US is in a recession or not. I guess the text book definition was not good enough.
Anyways, it turns out that three members of this committee are also contributors and advisors to either John McCain and Barack Obama.
So why is this such a big deal? Well, because right now the economy is the number one issue on the campaign trail, and America goes into “economical shock” when they here the word recession. Knowing that, do you suppose there might be some political motivation for and against labeling the economy in a recession? I think so. No political party has ever retained the presidency when the country was in recession. It would be safe to say John McCain has a lot riding on this panel.
Of course the members of the panel promise us their political considerations do not enter into their calculations. Uh....sure...advisors to political campaigns would never have political considerations.

Incredible Moments During the Democratic Debate
There were two significantly incredible moments from the Democratic debate Wednesday night. The first one involved Barack Obama and the second Hillary Clinton.
Barack Obama was reminded that when capital gains taxes are cut federal revenues increase and when capital gains taxes are raised federal revenues decrease. Then asked in light of those statistics why was he campaigning for an increase in capital gains taxes? Obama's answer... “Capital gains taxes should go up out of fairness.”
There you have it. Spoken like a true liberal jack ass. Barack Obama believes that taxes should be used to make things more “fair.” In other words, taxes are not just for the legitimate operations of government, but to take from people who are making to much money and redistributing that money to those making too little.
So if you want to live in a place where politicians determine how much of the money you earn would be fair to keep, and how much should be taken and redistributed to someone else then Obama is your man.
I would prefer the wisdom of author Frederic Bastiat who writes in his book “The Law:” “If the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. If the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay...If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.”
Hillary Clinton says we're pulling out of Iraq no matter what if she is elected!
The other significantly incredible moment is when Hillary Clinton was asked, If the top generals and commanders of the U.S. Military came to you and told you pulling out of Iraq would completely destabilize the region and was the wrong thing to do, would you still pull troops out of Iraq? Clinton didn't even hesitate to answer “yes, absolutely.” She then went on to promise troops would begin to leave Iraq in six months if she is elected.
This comes from a candidate who voted in support of the war. She now wants to cut and run. This answer would have been more acceptable to me if Clinton had actually voted against the war, but it still would have been the wrong answer.
In fact a good friend, John, and I just had this conversation a couple days ago. I supported and agreed with the invasion of Iraq. John did not agree with the invasion or the war in Iraq. However, we both agree we must stay and finish the job in Iraq. John told me the consequences of leaving Iraq at this time are to great.
We both agreed the debate on whether or not the invasion and war in Iraq was right or wrong is irrelevant. We now must deal with the situation and prevent the region from destabilizing.
Another thing, pulling out of Iraq sends a clear message to our enemies that America will always leave before the job is finished. A message the Taliban has used since Somalia in their Information War campaign.

Anti-War Flicks losing at the box office
The only thing Hollywood likes more these days than a good bashing of President George W. Bush is a good old anti-war flick. Preferably about Iraq, because we all know it has nothing to do with 9-11 and there was no al Qaeda in Iraq until that Evil Nazi incompetent cowboy of a president sent us in their to fight a war we can’t win and have already loss…Sorry folks just trying to get in touch with my liberal side here…
Although not the first, recently there was the film Redacted directed by Brian De Palma and produced by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Cuban and De Palma made the anti-war film portraying U.S. Soldiers in Iraq in bad light focusing on an isolated incident where four U.S. Soldiers end up brutally raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl. Of course De Palma fails to tell his audience all four Soldiers were arrested and charged. Three are serving life sentences and one is currently on trial facing the death penalty. Just like other anti-war flicks, Redacted bombed at the box office and was a complete flop.
Now we have a new anti-war flick named Stop-Loss. Stop-Loss is about a U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Who served in Afghanistan and Iraq and is awarded a Bronze Star for courage under fire in Iraq . He decides not to re-enlist and instead get out of the Army, but on his last day on active duty, the Army initiates their stop-loss policy sending him back to Iraq . It is not doing as bad at the box office as Redacted, but it is definitely not turning any heads either.
Now unlike Redacted I have not seen Stop-Loss, but after watching the movie trailer and reading the reviews, I know it is a movie about a Soldier “involuntarily” fighting a war that is unpopular. So why are these films unpopular?
One reason may be we don’t need a war movie to remind us that war is hell…bad things happen to good and bad people in war. We already know this, and the mainstream media has already bombarded us with the same themes from these anti-war flicks. They have done an excellent job of hammering the idea home to the point of ignoring any good or encouraging news about the conflict.
These films are predictable, just like Redacted we have Soldiers who don’t want to fight. To have a Soldier actually believe in the cause and want to serve and fight for it would reek of absolute patriotism and that is definitely not going to get you on the A-list at all the cool parties in Hollywood .
Also making movies about the not so isolated evil atrocities committed by the enemy we fight will leave you standing alone with no one to talk to at the cocktail party too.
Just like always though, Hollywood knows better. They know the reason these films have failed. A spokesperson from Paramount film says “It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved.”
So it is the movie watchers fault. It is your fault…the audience is too stupid to realize the war is already lost, therefore can’t fully enjoy or appreciate these films.
Isn’t it interesting you don’t hear that it is the audience’s inability to connect when it is a Paris Hilton film that flops.
But I guess what bothers me the most about these films is being lectured by Hollywood elitists who have never seen America or its military in a good light to begin with.
I think most Americans, no matter what they think about the war in Iraq , don’t want to watch films showing are military or country in a bad light. Uh Oh…that reeks of patriotism doesn’t it…Guess I won’t be making any of the Hollywood A-lists for cocktail parties anytime soon…I am heartbroken…really I am.

Barak Obama doesn't think his church is controversial
Barack Obama claims he just doesn't particularly see the controversy in his church. “I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial.” he tells ABC news in this you tube video.
I don't know about you, but when a presidential candidate sits in a congregation for 20 years where hatred of America was regularly preached a red light goes off.
Of course, we are not suppose to be concerned of the radical words of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The fact that he preached “God Damn America...for killing innocent people”...referring to the “US of KKKA”or that “we brought 9-11 onto ourselves” isn't controversial at all. He even labels black republicans as sell outs.
I suppose the fact that Obama gave more than 25,000 to this church last year is not controversial either. Let a republican give a penny to a white church that preaches racial hatred and see if he can get away with “I don't see the controversy.”

This is America. When ordering, "Speak English."

Veto doesn’t know how to say or understand Cheesesteak in Spanish, Japanese, Chinese or any other language other than English, and quite frankly he doesn’t care to learn.
Just read the sign displayed at his South Philly shop: This is America. When Ordering, “Speak English.”
“If you can’t tell me what you want, I can’t serve you,” said Vento. “It’s up to you. If you can’t say the word cheese, how can I communicate with you – and why should I have to bend? I got a business to run.”
Vento put up the signs in October 2005 because of his concerns over illegal immigration and the increasing number of people in the area who could not order in English.
Some citizens of Philadelphia didn’t particularly care for Vento’s “Speak English” sign and notified The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, which enforces civil-rights and mediates inter-group disputes.
In February 2007 the commission investigated and found probable cause to open a case against Geno’s for discrimination, alleging the policy discourages customers of certain backgrounds from eating there, and the sign may violate the city’s Fair Practices Ordinance, which bans businesses from discriminating on the basis of nationality or ethnicity.
Vento, whose grandparents struggled to learn English after arriving from Sicily in the 1920’s, said the sign is freedom of speech and has refused to remove the sign. He has been in a legal battle with the commission ever since.
He also claimed the sign is not discriminating and testified he has never turned anyone away because they couldn’t order in English.
Well the battle is now over and Vento can keep his sign up without fines. The commission has ruled 2-1 that the sign does not violate the city’s Fair Practices Ordinance because the sign did not say business will be “refused, withheld, or denied.”
The commission thankfully ruled right, but I have to ask why the hell did they have to get involved in the first place?

This is Vento’s shop. It is private property and a privately ran business. Vento should be allowed to hang any sign with any message he wants. If customers find it offensive they don’t have to eat there.
When the government at any level gets involved with how a successful philly cheesesteak shop is run, it is time to take another look at the governmental laws, and commissions that are being used by bureaucrats to waste tax payer money and harass US citizens. These ridiculous commissions should be de-funded and the bureaucrats made redundant.

Iraq Veterans for Congress: because our military deserves better civilian leadership.
Let’s fill the halls of Congress with representatives and senators who actually understand how the military works and the dynamics of the war on terror, because they have actually been there.
With ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, now entering there fifth and seven years, it has become the longest, most demanding and intense US military engagement of the past century since Vietnam.
More than 25,000 Servicemembers have been wounded, over 4,000 killed, and suspected thousands more with undiagnosed mental health issues, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Traumatic Brain Injury. Additional deployments that never make the news in Djibouti, the Balkans, the Korean Peninsula and elsewhere and several hot spots developing throughout the world which could require immediate military action in places such as Iran, Syria, N. Korea, the Taiwan Strait and even Latin America are putting huge pressures and strain on military resources.
We live in the most volatile time in our history since World War II and the Cold War, and our military continues to be asked to sustain an unprecedented pace of operations across the globe, although they are painfully getting the job done and accomplishing the mission, they do so with an American society and a US Congress that shockingly continues to know or understand very little about the forces responsible for protecting their nation.
With less than 1 in 10 of the American civilian populace and under a quarter of the US Congress never putting on a uniform and serving in any branch of the armed forces, America remains oblivious to the challenges the military faces and how to resolve them.
If we want to be serious about winning the war in Iraq and the War on Terror, then lets get leadership elected to Congress who understands the situation on the ground and will quit making decisions hampering our military.
Lets get behind and support Iraq Veterans for Congress because our military deserves better civilian leadership.
Here is a message from the Iraq Veterans for Congress website and founder Kieran Lalor, United States Marine Corp Veteran.
Since IVC was formed early this year, we have seen broad and enthusiastic support from across America for the strong group of candidates who are part of IVC, and we are grateful that our message is being heard. More importantly, we are pleased that America’s voice is being heard.
Whether Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine, we all shared a common goal in Iraq: victory. As Republican candidates for Congress we share a vision for America's future, her security, and that of future generations. We are unified in our commitment to relieve the Democrats of their command of Congress.
Voters want to restore leadership and honor back to Washington. Who better to accomplish that mission than our generation of warriors?
All veterans whose service to the United States brought them first to Iraq and now to a run for the House as pro-victory Republicans are welcome to become part of Iraq Veterans For Congress.
United we are capable of sending to Congress a squad-size element of Iraq vets to keep us on offense in the War on Terror, counter calls for defeat, and demand America's veterans receive the benefits they have earned.
In short, unification of all Republican Iraq Veterans will be a powerful force multiplier. By joining forces we will generate crucial nationwide grassroots support while sharing ideas and strategies.
IVC is more than a group of Republican candidates who served in Iraq, and we are here for something other than our respective Congressional races. We want to be a voice for thousands of U.S. military veterans, their families, and hardworking patriotic Americans who are tired of seeing veterans mistreated and their mission slandered.
When I brought the members of IVC together, I wanted America to have a reliable, unified voice from twelve candidates who are uniquely positioned to offer a knowledgeable, credible rebuttal to the Democrats, the mainstream media, and the constant message of defeatism and mistreatment of our troops. That’s what we’re doing every day, and we are counting on and appreciate your support.
Together, the members of IVC will a reliable voice for veterans, their families, and their mission, not only in our campaign to re-take Congress for Republicans, but for all Americans who have heard enough from the Democrats and their leadership in Congress.
Here is a list of the candidates.

Will Democrats really desert their party for McCain?
Uh oh…this is bad news for the Democrat Party presidential hopefuls. According to a new Gallup poll a sizeable proportion of Democrats would vote for John McCain next November if he is matched up against the candidate they do not support for the Democratic nomination.
It appears Hillary Clinton supporters are the biggest deserters with more than 25% of them saying they would vote for McCain if Barack Obama is the nominee.
On the flip side, 19% of Obama supporters say they would vote for John McCain if Clinton is the nominee.
This is good news for McCain who still has questionable support from the conservative base of the Republican Party in an election that will probably be close. Perhaps McCain will be the next president…then again; you know what they say about polls. The only one that matters is on Election Day.

Big T's Sugested Reading and Viewing from around the web
HBO ran a mini-series on John Adams based on a book I am currently reading by David McCullough. Suzanne Fields suggests our government children who know little about history be made to watch. Personally, I think they should read the book, but the mini-series is a start. This is a great book by the way.
She bought a website for $8 and turned it into a million-dollar business . Not bad for a 17-year-old. Great story.
Geraldine Ferraro is upset with Barack Obama for comparing her to the pastor of his church Jeremiah Wright. I would probably be upset about that too.
Gov. Arnold fires Clint Eastwood from the California State Park and Recreation Commission. The headline should read: Dirty Harry meets with the Terminator and is Erased…sorry folks I couldn’t resist.
Now Mother Hillary wants to help you make your house payment. She wants a $30 billion housing fund, with 10 billion going toward refinancing “unworkable mortgages.”

When there is financial and economical doom on the horizon the solution is always government, government and more government. Yeah...that should work.
US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is arguing against government intervention to the mortgage crisis. He says their ideas would cause more harm than good…He is right, but try to explain it to the government educated economically illiterate Americans who believe government always has the solution.

The president of the associated press says the US is arresting journalist in Iraq in order to “control information.” Riiight…and 9-11 was an inside job.
Admitted drug user says Moses was high on drugs when he received the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai. Where do they get these people? I wonder what would happen if he made the same statement about Islam’s Mohamad?
Oh darn…their goes my chance to date the beautiful Country Music starlette Sarah Evans… She is now engaged.
When the time comes for the family dog to take its eternal dirt nap, you could always have the pets hair spun into yarn and make jumpers…you know so you can remain close to your beloved pet…or not.
Oh to be young, stupid and in love again… two Tennessee teenagers were caught hanging from an interstate bridge proclaiming their love with a spray paint can.
Here is an absolute waste of time…Taco Bell lets you be a virtual swimsuit model photographer. I wasted about an hour here earlier.

Iraq: Five Years After the Invasion
Normally I would save this for the suggested reading and viewing from around the web section, but I feel it is important enough to lead with this.
This month marks the 5th Anniversary to the Iraq war and Newsweek has an excellent cover story about the fight in Iraq. Gen. Petraeus says he tells his young officers to watch the HBO series “The Sopranos” to understand the power dynamics in Iraq .
This one is a must read for anyone who wants to understand what the military is facing, and why the situation is so complex in Iraq .

Gun Control vs. Right to Carry: The reality is in the facts.
A couple weeks ago I gave my support to a bill in the Oklahoma legislature that would give students who had a concealed weapons permit to carry firearms on campuses in the state.
Then I get the emails and the messages, "Big T – you're wrong! How can you believe that more guns equal more protection?" “No one but law enforcement should be allowed to carry guns on campus.” And here is one: “You gun nut jobs need a date with reality.”
Well the reality of this matter are in the facts, researchers can find no instance in history where banning handguns has led to less violence involving handguns. It just isn't the case. In most cases crime has increased.
The most comprehensive book ever written on the subject is titled More Guns, Less Crime by John R. Lott Jr. I suggest everyone read it.
If you don’t want to read it; there are plenty of nations we can use as case sample studies of what happens when a society is disarmed by government. Crime rates skyrocketed in England and Canada when they enforced their ban on firearms.
We can also look at Iraq and Afghanistan. The law abiding citizens of these countries have been disarmed and now rely on U.S. military and allies to protect them from insurgents, al Qaeda and the Taliban. It is one of the biggest strategic mistakes we have made in the war.
Now let’s look at a place we actually have some data on. Some of you may have seen this information before, but here's what happened in Australia just one year after gun owners were forced to surrender their means of protection. By the way, "disarming" Australia cost the taxpayers $500 million.
A dramatic increase in criminal activity has been experienced.
OBSERVABLE FACTS, AFTER 12 MONTHS OF DATA:
· Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2%
· Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6%
· Australia-wide, armed-robberies are up 44% (yes, FORTY-FOUR PERCENT)
· In the state of Victoria , homicides-with-firearms are up 300%
· Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in homicides-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
· Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in armed-robbery-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
· There has been a dramatic increase in breakins-and-assaults-of- the-elderly
· At the time of the ban, the Prime Minister said "self-defense is not a reason for owning a firearm"
Is he kidding, I can’t think of a better reason to own a firearm.
Then there is the old argument small disputes on campus will turn into gunfights instead of fistfights. Once again it just doesn’t seem to be the case.
College students in Utah have been allowed to carry concealed weapons since 2006. They have some of the safest campuses in the country.
The truth is an armed society is a respected and well-mannered society.

Berkley anti-war moonbat: Why I Don't Support the Troops
I bring you this commentary to take you inside the mind of an anti-military moonbat peace-at-any-price liberal. The author is Kenneth Thiesen and it appeared in the Berkley Daily Planet.
Why I Don't Support the Troops
In the recent political battle around the Marine recruiting station in Berkeley there has been much confusion around the concept or slogan of "supporting the troops," but opposing the unjust wars of the Bush regime. Many who oppose the Bush regime wars also say they "support the troops." Let me say it straight out—I do not support the troops and neither should you. It is objectively impossible to support the troops of the imperialist military forces of the U.S. and at the same time oppose the wars in which they fight.
The United States has over 700 military bases or sites located in over 130 foreign countries. The hundreds of thousands of troops stationed in these countries are not there to preserve or foster freedom and democracy as the Bush regime would like to claim, but to maintain U.S. imperialist domination of the world. The United States now spends more on its military than all the other nations of the world combined.
If you "support the troops" in Iraq , Afghanistan , and the other more than 100 countries in which they are located, you also objectively support U.S. hegemony in the world. I believe that the vast majority of people who say they support the troops do not wish to support U.S. imperialism, but that is what they are really doing by putting forth the slogan of "support the troops."
We need to oppose the recruitment of men and women into the military. We need to support resisters within the military who have realized what they are doing and now choose to resist the role of the U.S. military. This includes people such as Lt. Ehren Watada who refused to deploy to Iraq . Watada stated, "Never did I imagine my president would lie to go to war, condone torture, spy on Americans..." He was the first officer to refuse to go to Iraq and he was court-martialed. Another resister is Camilo Mejia. In 2004 Sergeant Mejia was sentenced to one year in prison when he was court-martialed for refusing to assist the military in Iraq . Mejia said, "I am only a regular person that got tired of being afraid to follow his own conscience. For far too long I allowed others to direct my actions even when I knew that they were wrong...."
We need to expose that those in the U.S. military are trained to be part of a "killing machine." While not every member of the military is an individual murderer, they are all part of a system that commits war crimes, including aggressive wars, massacres, rape, and other crimes against humanity, all in the service of U.S. imperialism. The bottom line is that even if these people are relatives or friends, you can not support the troops without also supporting the objective role that these troops play in the imperialist system.
United States troops are acting as destructive and murderous forces of invasion and occupation. The people of Iraq and Afghanistan see this on a daily basis. Hundreds of thousands have died as a direct result of the U.S. invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan . Millions are either internal or external refugees. Tens of thousands have been detained in prisons, with thousands of these tortured and scores murdered. Haditha , Iraq where 24 Iraqis were massacred is just the best known of the massacres. Women and children are routinely described as "collateral damage" by military spokespersons when they are murdered in military operations.
"Support for the troops" has become political cover to support the wars. In Congress, many of those who claim they oppose the wars, use "support of the troops" to vote for hundreds of millions of dollars to fund the wars. These politicians are political opportunists, but there are also people who genuinely oppose the war, but who also say "I support the troops."
But to decide whether U.S. troops deserve support you must analyze what they actually do in countries occupied by the U.S. The wars these troops are engaged in have the goal of maintaining and extending U.S. hegemony throughout the world. They are unjust, illegal, and immoral wars. Can you support the troops in these wars? Why is this any different from a German in World War II saying, "I oppose the wars launched by Hitler, but I support the troops of the German army which are making these wars possible." When the Marines in Haditha massacred Iraqis, including women and children, would it have been correct to say I supported the Marines who killed those people, but not the massacre? This would be ridiculous, but no more so than supporting the troops engaged in the war that made the Haditha massacre possible in the first place.
In 1933 Marine Major General Smedley Butler clarified the role of the U.S. military. He stated, "War is just a racket...It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses...I spent 33 years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps...In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism..."
Like Butler, Watada, and Mejia, those in the military today must take responsibility for what the military does. Just like the German soldiers of World War 2 could not hide behind the "I was just following orders" excuse, military personnel today also can not hide behind it. Those of us who oppose the unjust wars of the Bush regime must struggle with those in the military and those that support them to expose what role the troops objectively play. Supporting the troops engaged in making war against other nations and people on behalf of U.S. imperialism is not acceptable.
You see Kenneth has a major problem with the United States being the supreme super power in the world. He would rather the U.S. remove all troops from around the world and play the role of victim to every other country that would love to be the Supreme Power over the United States.
There will always be a super power in the world. I don’t know about you, but I would prefer that it is the U.S.
While Kenneth may not support the troops or their missions, the troops will continue to support Kenneth and fight to protect his right to say such things from those who would take his right or his life away for saying things if given the opportunity.
Freedom of speech is a great thing, but it takes an American Soldier to retain it.

Those Damn Candy Dealers, Government Schools keeping kids safe from Skittles?
A government school in New Haven , Conn. has suspended an eighth grader for buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate. The candy dealer was also suspended…
Michael Sheridan, who bought the candy, was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day.
According to the article the school system has had a banned on candy sales since 2003 as part of a district wide school wellness policy.
School officials said, they are just trying to keep students safe…and “had concerns about the safety of students carrying large amounts of cash in school.”
Large amounts of cash, keeping kids safe? What kind of Skittles are these kids buying?
Damn those candy dealers and pushers…this logic only makes sense in a government school.
